An Introduction to Soul Birth

March 5, 2012

But at last I understood from William Blake and van Gogh and other great men, and from myself - from the truth that is in me (and which I have at last learned to declare and stand up for, as I am trying to persuade you to stand up for your inner truth)- at last I understood that writing was this: an impulse to share with other people a feeling or truth that I myself had. Not to preach to them, but to give it to them if they cared to hear it. If they did not-fine.  They did not need to listen. That was all right too. And I would never fall into those two extremes (both lies) of saying: "I have nothing to say and am of no importance and have no gift"; or "The public doesn't want good stuff."  When I learned all of this then I could write freely and jovially..."~ Brenda Ueland

And so it is that I speak to you about why I write from my soul to yours. For it is only within your soul that you will discover Truth. Therefore, I ask that you read these words with openness and let them stir something within. If no stirring occurs then you let it go and move on forth. For even a stiring of what may be consider negative, is a stirring of sorts and carries a message that needs to be listened to.

The ego speaks from criticism, where as the soul ponders and dwells. I invite you to dwell upon these words. For in writing I am witnessing my own Soul's birth, for this is part of my journey - my integration towards wholeness. I am sharing this intimate story with enthusiasm and with a subtle hope that it inspires something within your soul.

Of course it would be grand of me to expect that you will understand or even appreciate all of these words. For you may despise them and disagree and yet, I am still writing because that is what speaks deeply within. To not would be the death of me. And I have faced many deaths and the one constant that has not perished in this internal chaos is this Soul's voice.

Out of desire and generosity and a will to be alive, I share with you an experience, a blueprint, a framework that has greatly helped me navigate my own Soul's labor and birth. For without these sacred teachings, passed down to me through story telling, I am not sure how I would have found my way through the dark night of the soul; An internal landscape of dank despair, debilitating pain, and the quicksand of grief.

Now, how does one speak to these matters? To the experience of a Soul's birth, a Soul's awakening and transformation, an emergence? This journey of awakening the sleeping giant, the quest of the grail, and slaying the beasts? How does one speak in a manner that ignites a familiar knowing within; a way in which you can almost feel the subtle nuances of it all and the magnificent power that exists in us all?

You see, you can witness the transformation of the Caterpillar to butterfly; Yet you cannotknow deep within your core what that experience was like for that particular butterfly. You can witness one or a thousand births and never  know what that felt like for the mother. You can express empathy, offer love and nurturing care. You can have an idea about how it felt, based on your personal experiences with birth itself; yet you can never know what happened on a cellular level.

So how does one write about these matters? For what I am speaking to is not and intellectual process; it can only be known through doing and experiencing yourself. Each labor is unique to the Mother and each soul birth (a journey of inner transformation) is unique to the individual.  I can speak to what I have witnessed in others, and yet, can never know their internal experience - I can guess. And that guess is based on my personal understanding of my own navigation of life's labor pains. Therefore, what I am offering you is a spiritual framework (inspired by women's experiences of instinctive undisturbed birthing and sacred midwifery*) that can be used to assist you in navigating your internal soul's experience with life's labor pains.

In my humble opinion (and please try them on for yourself) these Truth's can help inspire courage, determination, purpose, and a way through the chaotic experience of grief, despair, pain and inner rage. For me, they became the grace under fire that was so desperately needed. So, in these writings, I am speaking about both my personal and perceptual experience. For I was both the experienced and the Witness of the experience; and the Teacher and the guardian of the birth space - I midwifed my own Soul's birth.

May I be so bold to say that we all need to be midwifed in this sacred way and we all need to be the Midwife of our own Soul's quest. And so, I am honored that you have chosen to venture deeper into these muddy waters and birthing tides. It is my deepest hope that in the end, you too will find the courage, faith, determination, spark of inspiration, and trust in the process of your Soul's Birth.

When Your Internal Power Takes Over...

February 23, 2012
"True freedom and the end of suffering is living in such a way as if you had completely chosen whatever you feel or experience at this moment. This inner alignment with Now is the end of suffering. Is suffering really necessary? Yes and no. If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion. You would not be reading this now. Suffering cracks open the shell of ego, and then comes a point when it has served its purpose. Suffering is...

Walk the Edge... The Other Edge

February 5, 2012

"Live with intention, walk to the edge"

I think I have been walking this edge, it is time I start walking to the other edge and see what is over this edge. The other edge has brought me much wisdom and experience. Now it is time to take in new experiences, ones that reside over there - on the edge - that edge, that different edge...

I do carry an intention while I walk to this new edge and I ask myself, "Will I leap?"

This edge is filled with a different kind of discomfort. It is full of heal...

Woundology... Feeding the pain cycle

November 28, 2011

"Sometimes we need to step back and allow a new reality to settle and integrate within us before setting out ot heal the world. In fact, I have observed some healers and seers who have not given themselves sufficient time for their own healing. Frequently, they felt pressured to be selfless and put the wounds of others above their own." Kristin Madden

So I am recalling a time when I was sitting in circle with women and we were listening to a talk about 'woundology' - how when we live in our w...

The Immediate Postpartum... The Sacred Window

November 13, 2011

"We need to promote and protect normal birth simply because the future of humanity depends on it. Our ability to love is nurtured in the womb... As midwives [of the soul] wee carry a huge responsibility to disseminate this knowledge... Midwives who understand the importance of not distrubing normal physiology and who work to protect undistrubed birth are the true guardians of the birth territory." Kathleen Fahy, Fournier et al Birth Territory and Midwifery Guardianship

If you relate to the t...

Modern 'Hippy' Homemaker

October 7, 2011

I want to talk about my experience as a: housewife, homemaker, stay at home mother of three children, and the matriarch of the home. I want to speak about juggling this full time job with a deep passion and need, to also serve other women in birth.
I want to share, with you, how for many years I didn't notice what this invisible work, as a homemaker, was really all about. And also, how I never really valued this work, neither did society. How I spent years in frustration and complaint ...

Knowing Our Interior World

September 25, 2011

"You must grow to become one, to become whole, to become sane. This sanity cannot be forced upon you. Society tries to force it upon you, but then you remain insane within and the sanity is just a facade. I am not going to force sanity upon you. Rather, I am going to bring out your insanity. When it is pulled out completely, thrown into the wind, sanity will happen to you. You will grow. You will be transformed." Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (AKA Osho)

We are living in a culture in which happiness i...

We have come to be danced...

September 20, 2011
Below is a beautiful poem that speaks the truth. It is inspiration to become undone, to let go, to express fully, to be your own unique expression of Life and to live wild and free.

To dance, in this manner, is to flow with life. It is not something that is thought, it is something that is experienced. It is instinctive. It is, what it is, in that moment. Neither right nor wrong. Not to be judged, but to be engaged with. To be danced, is to be alive.

This poem reminds me of the dance floor. B...

Heart Centered Living & Transformation

September 5, 2011

"There is a descent to a state of death in life. We look and feel dead, but something is happening under the skin-if we let it. The mask of the old self is dying-harbinger of resurrection...The dark, enclosed place of the cocoon is necessary for metamorphosis to complete itself." Miriam Greenspan

Lately I have been contemplating love, heart, compassion, chaos, and life...My life really :)

We all carry a story, we all have had a life worth talking about. These stories make us human and carve ...

Holding Space for Transformation

Holding Space for Transformation

Introduction to holding the space and how I found my way…

Not too long ago, I was sitting at a gathering (a group of individuals holding council) and I found myself witnessing the dynamics of the group. I noticed all sorts of different interplays going on between all those present. Most of all, what I noticed was that the topic that was being discussed was stirring up some tension amongst the group and I pondered to myself, what is the contributing un...
